Our Tube Fits you

Modernization Plan 2012

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) presents its Modernization Plan 2012, Our Tube fits you; a set of proposals aimed at improving service provided by the Metrovalencia network and progressing with the implementation of our Plan of Action for Line 1.

This initiative is based on three major points:

Accessibility as a concept that represents a network open to all people.

Flexibility in the sense of catering to our society’s mobility need as far as possible.

Sustainability; a concept that establishes us as active agents in our society when it comes to guaranteeing sustainable development.

A Metro made to measure is a result of the joint efforts of FGV staff, innovation, applying new technology, our customers’ collaboration and our commitment to improving every day.

The proposed actions sum up to 500 million euros and involve improving service, accessibility, customer service and sustainability.

Improving Service

Our Tube fits you contemplates incorporating new trains and trams that, together with an automated train operation system installed in the underground stretch of the network, will increase frequency and punctuality as well as offer more capacity and better security conditions throughout the network as a whole.

For this, FGV bets on:

Installing a new ATO (Automatic Train Operation) system.

Lines 1, 3 and 5 will increase the number of trains circulating through its underground stretches. They will also reduce intervals between trains by 25 % and improve commercial velocity, constancy, comfort, performance and security on the metro network.

Incorporating new equipment.

FGV has started a renovation and expansion process for its rolling stock that will increase the Metrovalencia network to 46 trams and 80 trains.

These new units are equipped with the latest technology and completely computerized systems.

With these new vehicles, Metrovalencia increases capacity from 45.000 to 60.000 seats available to passengers.

Night Train

Another novelty is Metrovalencia’s extended night timetable during the weekends. Service will be extended on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the metro and tram network.

In 2010 this measure will be introduced on Fridays and Saturdays from June to September and on other specific occasions.

In 2011 the night service on Fridays and Saturdays will be increased during other months of the year. This way, depending on results, continuous service could be offered.

Comfort and Accessibility

FGV bets on accessibility: 100 % accessible stations for people with reduced mobility.

Adapting stations and trains to R.D. 1544/2007 norms of accessibility for people with reduced mobility, the blind and the deaf. This plan implies adapting stations and rolling stock.

Installing lifts in all underground stations.

Currently, the degree of accessibility at Metrovalencia is at 97%, with a total of 65 lifts and 128 escalators.

Our Tube fits you includes a transport plan for customers with reduced mobility in case of emergency as well as the possibility of elaborating a personalized feasibility study for customers with special needs.

More personalized attention

FGV is developing a more versatile and personalized model for customer service with new information systems based on the latest technology.

Among other improvements, the most noteworthy are:

Creating CIAC (Integral Centre for Customer Service).

Setting up wifi or bluetooth communication systems for information services on portable devices (telephones, laptops, etc)

Greater capacity to react when faced with repairs, unforeseen events, information requests and emergencies.

Implementing public address systems, intercoms and public information systems at all tram stops and metro line halts.

Installing vending machines in above ground stations on Line 1 and 3.

Recharging pre-paid travelcards at ATMs and purchasing travelcards on the internet.

Sustainability

FGV service contributes to deterring over 46 million journeys in private vehicles annually.

The 70 million passengers transported by Metrovalencia contribute to avoiding 229 tons of CO2 emissions into the environment every day; 83.930 tons annually and to saving 34.464.000 litres of fuel annually.

This plan contemplates reusing 85% of the water consumed in workshops and facilities, installing new lighting systems in the network tunnels and new solar panels as well as using energy recovered during dynamic braking, increasing Parking + Metro (P+M) spaces and installing bicycle parking spaces at station.
